A Scenic Painting of Bethlehem:
Actual Size?!

My most recent work: An Illustration on a GIGANTIC scale, commissioned by our church, Christ the Rock, for their 10th Christmas Musical. Instead of constructing an elaborate set as in past years, they asked me to design and paint a scenic mural on the entire back wall: 70 feet wide by 26 feet high! So the foremost building at the right end is at least 16 feet tall.

Following the sketch and a lot of math, the next step was to learn how to drive "Fred," the rented lift. The materials were entirely latex house paints and some creative lighting. A temporary "manger" structure in the center was taken down after the musical's run, and additional trees and details were painted into the center portion.

No job too small OR too big!

My thanks to Gerald Voigt, aka Hawkeye, for much better photos of the finished scene. More details and step-by-step photos have been added to my Facebook page, and will appear on the Freelance Artist Blog very soon.
