I am a commercial freelance illustrator and graphic designer with a fine arts background. This means that I draw and paint all styles of art and deliver them to customers in ready-to-use formats, and help them use the art in the most profitable and efficient ways. Silkscreen businesses, printers, and newspaper and magazine publishers gave me the experience I needed to go freelance in 2006. I partner with other professionals — marketers, copywriters, web developers, printers and graphic designers — to create “virtual agencies” serving businesses that may not have in-house designers.
A picture of the artist as a young man.
As a kid in the Cleveland, Ohio area, my first drawing efforts were copies of Disney characters from comics and books. Creating drawings as gifts for people was my way of asking for approval. In a big way, this continues to be my marketing plan:
Look what I made! Do you like me now!?
After a few years of “undecided” at OSU I entered Columbus College of Art & Design, earning a BFA in Illustration. I’ve been fortunate to have worked in art-related jobs since that time.
I enjoy creating detailed illustrations of impossible themes. When people call me they say:
“We have a fantastic idea but we can’t draw it.”
A commercial artist must be versatile, equally adept at nearly any style and medium from cartoons to photo-realism. Because of a love of and fascination with nature, my favorite style is detailed pen and ink, which allows me to imitate the depth of interest and texture seen in the outdoors.
Working with customers across the U.S. … at any given time it seems we’re creating at least one of EVERYTHING:
Some of my more visible works can be found here…
And finally, I believe art should be appealing, professional, and as useful as possible to my CUSTOMERS. In return, they have made it possible for me to work in such a FUN field!
